I'm just curious about how fans of the series feel about this project. The books were epic and so is this undertaking. Can it hold up to the fans expectations?
There is so much talk about this book series coming to film and TV that I doubt I can say anything that hasn't already been said but I wonder if this project is a good thing or not. Stephen King's work doesn't always translate to movies well. In fact most of the movies based on his books are terrible. They tend to lack the power and detail in his books and just throw the rough plot at the viewers and only a couple of directors have ever been able to make good movies out of his books. What's worse is that most of his books that translate into movies well are not books about crazy worlds or monsters. The only movie based on a crazy story that did well was the Mist. All the others have been prison stories or stories about people doing things or people going nuts.
I am a super fan of the Dark Tower and I look forward to this retelling and I think the cast will be the toughest part of getting the movie right. The story is an epic about a vast world but when you get down to it it is mostly about people and how they change from self centered dicks to group centered heros. Who ever gets cast has to be able to replicate the personality of the characters in the books as well as look like the characters.
I just hope this thing does well. What do you guys think?
